2 year MBA’s has a lot of educational & subjective courses in its basket to keep the transition easier for the freshers. Plus the module is designed in such a way that students get the appropriate perspective of Marketing & Sales, Finance, Operations management, analytics etc. and then choose a major accordingly in their 2nd yeas. But if you look at the one-year MBA courses, a minimum experience some colleges is of 2 years and in some of 5 years. Now an average experience of 3-4 years gives you a thorough self-evaluation and the skill sets you are best at. So the common 1-year courses focus on general managerial studies and not on the academic side.

So it will be not just ifoedtosay that 1 year MBA is crunched version of the 2 years MBA.

Better to do is if you have work experience then is the 1-year curriculum fulfilling your overall profile and go ahead with it. There are many successfully running 1 year MBA courses like the 1 year IIMs, Great Lakes, ISB, XLRI, MDI, Centre for Leadership @ Northcap University. Do research before applying. Good Luck

The answer is yes and no, depending on what parameters you use to compare the two.

On the number of contact hours, course credits, and breadth of topics, the two are comparable and hence the 1 year is a crunched version of the 2 years. You learn as much in half the time!

The difference between the two is essential in what areas are focussed on and how. Since there is lesser time available, things move much faster and the emphasis is on imbibing strategic thinking albeit on the same subjects. So for example, in a topic like M&A, the 2-year program may focus on all theoretical aspects of the deal, in the 1-year version, students would focus on the practical challenges a deal faces on structuring, integration, HR/culture issues etc.
