Hrishikesh Suslade
(A Software Engineering in the making
In10th Std. I promised my parents I’ll top my school. But couldn’t
11 & 12th I promised them I’ll get into IIT. But couldn’t. Instead created mess due to which I had to pay extra fees for my college. When the results of JEE came out, I was devastated and couldn’t control myself, I wanted to end myself! But, my parents didn’t raise me to do this.
I took admission in one of the oldest college of Maharashtra, Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute. It’s a great college but I had greater goals. I wanted to study computer engineering but still, I couldn’t get it and I had to settle for Information Technology.
It was a big thing for me to live all by myself in a big city like Mumbai. Coming from a middle class and not so professional background, I faced a lot of challenges while interacting with people.
But life is all about challenges and change.
I worked hard to get a good pointer (though it’s the way to get a good job) but failed miserably. Because I can’t do mugging of illogical theoretical answers! My parents were spending around 1–1.5 Lakh on my education annually, but I wasn’t doing well.
During my second year, I consulted with my seniors about life. Trust me, you might think this will be embarrassing, but this has been my best decision ever. Choosing the right seniors and right questions is a thing but you’ll surely get a lot of help. They guided me on how to make a profile for a good coding career, how to develop myself and a hell lot of personal advice!
Third-year comes in I’m selected as a Secretary of Technovanza ( biggest Festival of my college). I felt that this would make my parents proud. But it didn’t. They felt that this is a waste of my time and resources. Maybe they were right but, it helped me realise how the world works, how people change and make great memories and friends.
Getting an internship is a big thing at my college. Because it’s the easiest way to get a job. No kidding, it’s really easier to get a job compared to a Full-time employee interview.
The first company to come for an internship was Morgan Stanley. I was selected for an interview but couldn’t go any further.
The second was Samsung R & D. It was my dream company. But I failed miserably, I cried. I told my mom she was also very sad. She didn’t understand what exactly it was but she knew that it was a big thing for me.
Next was Amazon. I decided that I’m gonna give my 100% for this, no matter what the result is. I started studying as I had really nothing else, I studied around 12 hours daily for 15 days straight. The test happened, I cleared it. Next day I had interviews, they went good and one day later I got the results. I was selected for the Amazon Development Centre internship at Bangalore. I had never thought in my dreams that I would end up in the Big Four Tech. While telling my mom this news I burst into tears and she also cried from the other side of the phone. It was one of the happiest days of my life.
Fast forward one year. I had an awesome experience at my internship. And after 1 month of completion, I received a message from my manager that I’m hired as a Software Development Engineer, with a package of five times my dad’s salary. I told this news to my mom and Dad and they were the happiest person on this planet on that day.
Finally, I felt I have achieved something great and made my parents proud.
I look back on that day when one of my professors had said that I can’t go into IIT, I don’t deserve to go in front of my parents. But today I did what my other IITan friends couldn’t do!
My parents are prouder than ever.
And all this would not have been possible if it wasn’t for their endless support!
Love you, Mom and Dad ❣️
Edit 1: Thanks for the upvotes and VJTI is one of the oldest colleges in Maharashtra and Mumbai but in terms of ranking it’s below IITs and NITs and many private colleges.
Edit 2: This is my first answer that got 100+ upvotes thanks for the support!

Edit 3: This is my first answer to get 1000+ upvotes thanks for your support!
The reason behind starting my package in terms of my family salary was, my parents, are proud of it. Coming from lower-middle-class family it’s a big deal for me and my family to get such a huge package. 🤗
