Who’s hiring at IITs, NITs

The economic slowdown hasn’t dampened the demand for top talent from India’s premier engineering colleges. Companies such as PwC, Flipkart, Softbank, Ola and DE Shaw have significantly upped their campus hiring numbers this year at the various IITs and NITs.

Scores of students at the older IIT campuses have offers with annual packages of around ₹1 crore, Livemint reports. Campus recruits are being sought for titles ranging from research engineer and business analyst to product managers.

Harish Kumaresh – Well so much for the economic slowdown Beating slowdown blues, five students at India’s oldest IIT, IIT Kharagpur, bagged offers exceeding INR 1 Cr per annum, on the very first day of the final placement season. Microsoft and Goldman Sachs, were the top recruiters rolling out over 38 offers to engineering graduates. It has become so much more important today to be a part of A-list universities. Because it is almost assumed that someone making it to these universities are more deserving than someone who is not. It begs the question and debate whether to hire basis talent and skill or whether companies should go after someone who has the IIT brand stamp on his resume. What is more important?

Anirban Chakravarty – Why companies in India should hire based on talent and skills and not run after hashtag#IITs and hashtag#IIMs tags Think about your story: It takes time to build a hashtag#brand and any of the branded product in the market was once a startup looking for customers. They are a brand now because customers believed in their true potential and didn’t run after established brand. Value addition: If you are taught by the best of the professors that doesn’t necessarily mean the output is same. The output is solely dependent on the students and his/her capabilities. Ex: Everyone didn’t become hashtag#Sachin hashtag#Tendulkar after being trained by Ramakant Achrekar sir in his academy. Hard work: Someone who didn’t have a hashtag#fancy hashtag#degree have to be hashtag#competitive at all stages of his career to get a good job and to strive in the hashtag#job market I personally feel it is a shortcut most companies take to scout the best talent. And I must say all these comes at a cost. A little thought behind the recruitment process can go a long way in creating a hashtag#blend of hashtag#right talent at the hashtag#work place. Someone said to bet on the winning horse is the easiest way out of the hashtag#gamble however the hashtag#probability of a horse winning a hashtag#race is equally dependent on its rider!!
