SANDEEP CHATTERJEE, A GLOBALLY ACCLAIMED FILMMAKER, JOINS JINDAL SCHOOL OF JOURNALISM & COMMUNICATION (JSJC) AS A FACULTY FOR DIRECTION & SCREENPLAY-WRITING FOR THE FILM AND NEW MEDIA PROGRAMME

We at O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) are delighted to share that Sandeep Chatterjee, a globally acclaimed Filmmaker will be joining us as a #faculty for Direction & Screenplay-writing for the newly launched programme Film and New Media at the Jindal School of Journalism & Communication (JSJC).

The National Award-winning director of Sundar Jeebon, Mr. Chatterjee is a filmmaker and teacher of cinema whose work spans around 29 years. In the late eighties, Sandeep quit studying science because of his love for cinema and joined the fabled Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, of which he is a distinguished alumnus, and has been Head of the Department of Direction & Screenplay writing.

His current assignment came on the back of decades of work impressive for both breadth and depth. Apart from Sundar Jeebon, a film based on the fiction writing of the iconic Bengali poet Jibanananda Das, that won the President’s medal, Sandeep has made influential films like Raat koto holo, which have been screened at different festivals and film schools.

Sandeep’s teaching career began at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute in Kolkata, an institution he helped from its early days to make one of the country’s premier film schools. He has travelled and lectured in film schools across continents: from Taipei and Moscow to Tolouse, and closer home, at Subhash Ghai’s Whistling Woods, Mindscreen Film Institute in Chennai and Annapurna College of Film and Media in Hyderabad. Under his mentorship, several generations of students have won major awards and made a strong impression in important international film festivals like Cannes, Berlin, Rotterdam, etc.

Sandeep has been on the jury of various film awards and travels the globe for workshops and symposiums. He is also a firm believer in creating art by ‘working with what you have’; just one of the reasons why his legion of students respect and love him.
