UPSC CSE Exam 2020

 

The Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) organises the Civil Services Examination (CSE) every year to hire the next generation of government officials for different All India Services and Central Civil Services of the Government of India. This examination is also known as the IAS exam.

There are two stages in the CSE:

  • Preliminary paper, which is a Multiple Choice Question type exam, and
  • Main paper, which is an essay-type exam followed by an interview.

However, the marks scored by an applicant in the preliminary paper are not counted as the only purpose of the preliminary paper is to screen the applicants for the next round.

 

Eligibility Criteria for CSE

Everyone who is considering appearing for the 2020 IAS examination must meet the following criteria:

 

A) Nationality

Only a citizen of India can be selected for the Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Administrative Service (IAS). For all other services, the candidate can either be a citizen of India or:

  • A subject of Nepal/Bhutan.
  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 intending to permanently move to India.
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam intending to permanently settle in India.

Note: Candidates who are subjects of Nepal/ Bhutan or Tibetan refugees are not eligible to apply for Indian Foreign Service (IFS).

 

B) Age Limit

All applicants must be at least 21 years of age and at most 32 years of age as on 1st August 2020. 

  • Educational Qualification
  • applicants must be graduates in ANY field from ANY university or college established under an Act passed by the Parliament of India or state legislature. Applicants who are in the final year of their graduation can also apply for the IAS Preliminary examination. However, these applicants need to submit proof of passing the requisite examinations once they apply for IAS Main examination.

 

IAS Examination Process

  • 1: Filling of Application Forms
  • can fill the IAS application form online at upsconline.nic.in. After filling the application form, they need to pay the application fees either online or offline.
  • 2: Download Admit Card for Preliminary Examination
  • who have filled the application form can download their admit cards from the official UPSC website three weeks before the exam date.
  • 3: Preliminary Examination 2020
  • IAS Preliminary examination 2020 is scheduled for 31st May 2020.
  • 4: The DAF Form
  • clearing the preliminary examination, candidates need to fill a Detailed Application Form (DAF) for the main examination.
  • 5: Download Main Examination Admit Card
  • those applicants who cleared the preliminary examination can download the main examination admit card three weeks prior to the scheduled exam date.
  • 6: Appearing for the Main Examination

The main examination is scheduled to be conducted on 18th September 2020. The bifurcation of marks in the main examination is as follows:

7: IAS Result 2020 

  • both rounds (preliminary and main) have been conducted successfully, UPSC will release the final result on its website. All the names of those candidates who appear in the merit list will then be selected for postings in various services.
