SNU Campus Life

Bhavya Joshi from Alwar, Rajasthan is pursuing BSc. Research Chemistry at Shiv Nadar University and is in her 3rd year. Talking about life at SNU, this volleyball enthusiast who is also inclined towards teaching tells us that while leaving home was difficult for her to begin with, she has made some great friends at SNU who are now like a second family to her. When asked about SNU’s infrastructure and how she feels about the campus life, she tells us that among the many state-of-the-art facilities at SNU, its library is the best maintained and that most teachers are very helpful; the students can talk to them in person about their problems without any hesitation. The labs are one of the best in India and offer hands-on experience with equipment to students at large.

Talking about her course, she informs that the BSc. Program is a 4-year program and the 4th year is dedicated to research. The students get to choose their courses at the start of every semester except the first semester where courses are provided by default based on the program a student selects.

Further, she adds that SNU is different from others in many aspects and that students at SNU have the freedom to choose courses from programs outside their main course curriculum. For extracurricular activities, SNU has different clubs and societies which students can join based on their interests. Bhavya, for instance, has joined the Aura club – a club for students who love teaching. The university also frequently organizes seminars and conferences in addition to offering its students world-class sports facilities – for both indoor and outdoor sports including games like chess, carom, scrabble and outdoor sports like volleyball, football, cricket, tennis, squash, basketball, badminton, etc. Also, the campus offers most amenities such as mini-mart, saloon, bank, etc. to ensure that students don’t have to step out for basic requirements.

Talking about journals or magazines that SNU publishes from time to time, Bhavya speaks highly of Whistling Teal magazine which publishes events that take place at SNU. Overall, SNU campus life is great and students don’t face any problems here. The hostel rooms are well maintained and timely cleaned; not to forget the food served at SNU is both, nutritious and hygienic. Everything from a dispensary to a 24×7 ambulance is available inside the campus.

Adding more to the positive aspects of the campus life at SNU, Bhavya says that the faculty-student ratio is 1:6 at SNU and the professors are always more than happy to pay individual attention to every student and help them solve their doubts and queries during and after classes.

Apart from this, a regular day at SNU starts early and ends by 6 pm, after which students take a little time off from studies and pursue extra-curricular activities of their choice, only to get back to studies to work on their assignments. About events and fests, Bhavya affirms that several events take place at SNU including the inter-college fest called Breeze and the intra-college fest. Other than these there are festival celebrations and flag hoisting on Independence Day and Republic day.

And last but not the least, the most important facet of SNU that makes it stand apart from others is its placements record; speaking of which Bhavya confirms that SNU’s campus placement is excellent as companies like Dell, Cognizant, Zomato, etc. visit the campus for placements every year. The recruitment is done based on different exams, group discussions and interviews
