Selection Process for Awarding of Institution of Eminence Status

Institution of Eminence ( IoE ) List

In August 2019, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, released a list of 20 institutions (10 public and 10 private) that were awarded the Institution of Eminence (IoE) status. This initiative was undertaken to prepare institutions for global rankings and further the standard of higher education in India.

Selection Process

After receipt of applications that have been submitted following the format prescribed and within the due date, they will be processed and forwarded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to the University Grants Commission (UGC), which will entrust it to the Empowered Expert Committee.

The Empowered Expert Committee will conduct its appraisal based on the documents submitted as well as any other measure of demonstrated commitment to the cause of developing an Institution of Eminence. This appraisal will involve scrutiny of papers submitted, along with multiple interactions with the representatives of the sponsoring organization. It may also involve any field visit. The Committee will engage with the institution to study its proposals, hear presentations from them and after thorough scrutiny, rank the institution for its suitability for inclusion in the scheme, based on which the Committee will make its recommendations.

The recommendations of the Committee will be placed before the Commission, which will then send the recommendation within 15 days of the receipt of the recommendation. Based on the recommendations of the Commission and the Committee, the Ministry of Human Resource Development will issue orders on the selection of the institution under this scheme.
